We encourage attendees to read Nilima's book to enjoy the greatest benefit from this transformative event. She will also be signing books at the event.

Small bites from the principle of Shakti Leadership

  1. Do you notice the difference between power-over and power-with? What happens when you shift from one to the other?

  2. The choice between polarities is not right and wrong but right and right. How do you deal with the seemingly irreconcilable?  For instance: Speak up, set direction, lead - but be participative, listen, collaborate.

  3. If the Hero’s Journey is a quest for power, the Heroine’s Journey is a quest for love. How does this manifest in your work?

See how leading organizations are responding to growing consumer demand for purpose-minded businesses. Learn how they are increasing social impact, enhancing their business results, and how you can too.
  • Insights into shaping your identity and business practices around a higher purpose.
  • How to use authentic and purpose-driven storytelling to inspire employees, customers and consumers around your higher purpose.
  • How companies are building inspired communities of interest around their brands and products through consumer engagement and content creation.
  • How companies position themselves to shape culture and lead their categories.

“If a brand genuinely wants to make a social contribution, it should start with who they are, not what they do. For only when a brand has defined itself and its core values can it identify causes or social responsibility initiatives that are in alignment with its authentic brand story.”
- Simon Mainwaring, We First

Simon at the We First Summit, 2016

- Simon Mainwaring at the We First Brand Leadership Summit last year

Who is Simon Mainwaring?

An award-winning brand consultant and best-selling author of We First: How Brands and Consumers Use Social Media to Build a Better World, Simon is the founder and CEO of We First, the leading brand consultancy that provides purpose-driven strategy, content, and training that accelerates growth through purpose.

What valuable information will be shared?

For the last four years, We First has provided a hands-on executive training for 200 leaders from the most influential brands and non-profits in the world, including Virgin Unite, Patagonia, Toms and more. And now, Simon is curating the most crucial content from these two-day Brand Leadership Summits into a half-day practicum tailored specifically for the CCLA audience. An amazing opportunity to learn the most valuable brand storytelling insights, for a fraction of the cost of the annual summit. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this to our community!

Who is this Practicum for?

What People are Saying about We First/Simon Mainwaring:

“Not only was the We First practicum exceptionally well received, it was the highest rated session ever of our entire conference program.”
- Julie Van Amerongen, Producer - Conscious Capitalism 2015 Conference

“ The We First Summit is the best place to see where purpose driven brands, digital innovation and cause marketing can unite to transform business. Brilliant attendees, hands on tactical training and insightful keynote speakers combine to leave attendees with skills they can use immediately as well as inspiration to drive change within their organization.”
Paul Young, Strategic Partnership - Instagram

“Simon Mainwaring and We First recognize that for leading brands it’s more than knowing how to use social media to build engagement with millennials and the even younger emerging generations, but it’s about how to use those tools so brands can be actual agents of social change. That’s what young people now expect, that’s what the leading brands understand, and that’s what Simon and We First are skilled at showing how you do it.
- Rick Ridgeway, VP Environmental Initiatives - Patagonia

Shakti Leadership, an archetype in the tradition of some of the great leadership frameworks of our time -  Authentic Leadership, Servant Leadership, and Level 5 Leadership.  Author and speaker, Nilima Bhat, will share with us this powerful and uplifting model that fully embodies one of the core tenets of Conscious Capitalism, Conscious Leadership. Come learn how to leverage both your masculine and feminine nature; to come into your true power and more fully human leadership.

Nilima & Raj’s alternative vision, rooted in ancient teachings and the latest science, is as transformative as it is simple, mapping out a new definition of leadership that elevates qualities and abilities traditionally considered feminine – with benefits for women and men alike."

THE TRUE COST
Who Pays The Price of Our Clothing

The True Cost is an unprecedented documentary that invites us on an eye opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.

TheTrueCostImage.png

Directed by Andrew Morgan

This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?

Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.

The fashion industry and the production of clothes globally continues to be one of the most unconscious business supply chains on the planet. THE TRUE COST explores what's behind this multi-trillion dollar industry and what type of changes are possible to shift the business practices inherent therein.

Please join us for a screening and lively post-film discussion with the director and several other fashion entrepreneurs:

The Mask You Live In

Conscious Capitalism Los Angeles and WeVu present...

10846391_640610909384694_8780250869942101309_n.jpg

A Community Film Screening followed by an Audience Post-film Discussion.

The Mask You Live In, written, directed and produced by Jennifer Newsom follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of masculinity.

Pressured by the media, their peer group, and even the adults in their lives, our protagonists confront messages encouraging them to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence. These gender stereotypes interconnect with race, class, and circumstance, creating a maze of identity issues boys and young men must navigate to become “real” men.

Experts in neuroscience, psychology, sociology, sports, education, and media also weigh in, offering empirical evidence of the “boy crisis” and tactics to combat it.

The Mask You Live In explores how we, as a society, can raise a healthier generation of boys and young men and the conscious leaders of tomorrow.

Can Purpose and Profit Co-Exist?

Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 06:00 PM
ROC-Santa Monica in Santa Monica, CA · $25.00 USD

purpose-splash-header.jpeg

In 2013, Kent Frazier, a new hire at Global Market Research Company LRW, boldly asked CEO Dave Sackman:

“What might be the purpose of this company beyond making money for ourselves and our clients?”

To Dave’s credit, Kent wasn’t fired on the spot.  Instead they began a passionate, dialogue about the higher purpose of their organization and what it means for how they do business.

In this special event, Kent (now LRW’s Head of Talent and Founding Member of Conscious Capitalism LA), and Dave pull the curtain back on their attempts to give life to the tenets of Conscious Capitalism and share valuable insight from their first year working together serving some of the most prominent and profitable brands.*

They will touch on:

• Balancing Purpose & Profit
• Who and What Matters
• The Power of Culture
• Transformational Leadership

And of course, there will be food, drinks, Q&A and a chance to socialize with the LA Conscious Business community, and share stories on what it means to create and navigate a conscious company.

*LRW is a global market research firm with 350 employees, serving high profile clients like Nike, P&G, Disney, Starbucks, Apple, McKinsey, and many more. Dave Sackman has been its CEO for 23 years, growing it from $5M in annual revenues to a global presence with over $100M in revenues.
